Nadia & Aviv

07 JUNE 2025

Let’s start with your story.

“We are Nadia and Aviv, and we’ve been together for six years. We first met in high school at the age of 14, but life took us in different directions. Years later, in our late twenties, we reconnected when Nadia was visiting London with friends, and Aviv was already living and working in central London. Not long after, Nadia decided to leave everything behind and move to the UK to be with Aviv.”

Where are you from?

“We were both born and raised in Geneva, and today we divide our time between London and Geneva. Nadia has Portuguese roots, while Aviv’s family background is Algerian and Yemenite, which makes for a very rich mix of cultures in our lives.”

Did you know anyone who had gotten married in Portugal?

“Surprisingly, no. Ours was the first wedding within our circle to take place in Portugal.”

“With our families and friends scattered across the globe, we dreamed of bringing everyone together in one destination, somewhere elegant, timeless, and deeply personal. The decision became clear when Aviv proposed to Nadia at the Palácio de Seteais in Sintra in March 2024, a moment so extraordinary that it anchored Portugal into our story forever. From that point, it was less of a decision and more of a certainty.”

What made you choose Portugal
as your wedding destination?

How did you discover Portugal
as a wedding destination?

“Social media played a huge role in inspiring us and showing us the incredible venues Portugal has to offer and the possibility of hosting a wedding that felt both international and intimate.”

What did you know or imagine about Portugal before arriving?

“We already knew Portugal was breathtaking and that its people are warm and welcoming. Even so, experiencing it firsthand exceeded all expectations, the kindness, the landscapes, the food… everything was even more special.”

What venue did you choose and why?

“We were torn between the Palácio de Seteais, where Aviv proposed, and Solar de Vila Mea, a historic property near Porto. Ultimately, Solar de Vila Mea captured our hearts completely. The venue radiated charm and authenticity, and the team behind it made us feel truly at home. We fell so deeply in love with it that we’ve already committed to returning every year to celebrate our anniversaries there.”

What was the planning
process like from afar?

“The most exciting aspect was curating the experience, connecting with exceptional vendors and discovering how each one would bring their artistry to our day. The greatest challenge, naturally, was not being able to meet everyone in person beforehand. In this sense, trust became essential, and it was a lesson in letting go while still maintaining a clear vision.”

Was it easy to bring your
guests to another country?

“Very much so. The venue was just 45 minutes from the airport, with excellent transport links. The logistics unfolded seamlessly.”

Did your guests enjoy the experience?

“They adored it. Many extended their stays, turning the wedding into an opportunity to discover Portugal. The feedback was very positive,  about the country, the people, and of course, the celebration itself.”

“We enjoyed a week in the region before the wedding, although Aviv had to return to work shortly afterward. Our guests, however, took full advantage, exploring the region and immersing themselves in Portuguese culture. For ourselves, we’ve planned to return next year for our anniversary to continue the journey through the Douro Valley.”

Were you able to include other travel experiences during your stay?

Did you include any Portuguese
traditions or touches in your ceremony?

“Yes,  we wanted to incorporate a small yet thoughtful gesture by welcoming our guests with pastel de nata in their rooms. It was our way of offering them a first taste of Portugal. As we had a Jewish wedding, we kept the core of our traditions intact.”

“From the very start, we felt surrounded by kindness and genuine care. Everyone we encountered, from housekeeping to the director, radiated warmth. It was truly special to feel that each person was personally invested in making our celebration unforgettable.”

How did you feel during your stay in Portugal?

Were your expectations met?

“They were not only met, but exceeded. The venue played a major role in the entire experience, from gastronomy to service, and they delivered beyond what we had dared to hope.”

Which professionals were
involved in your wedding?

“Venue & Catering: Solar de Vila Mea : flawless, from beginning to end. A heartfelt thank-you to Luís, the director, and Nadia, his assistant, whose dedication made us feel like family.

Photography: Louise Golding, whose artistry, sensitivity, and passion moved us deeply. She captured not only the moments but also the emotions, becoming part of our story in the process.

Videography: JoaoRosavisuals, an exceptional professional, refined and discreet, who brought a poetic eye to our day.

Rentals: Maison Christina, whose pieces added a refined elegance to the atmosphere.

Each of these professionals elevated the experience, and we cannot recommend them highly enough.”

Did you honeymoon in Portugal?

“Unfortunately not, but we have a very fun honeymoon planned, but Portugal will always remain part of our celebrations.”

Now that everything’s over, is there anything you would do differently?

“Of course, hindsight brings perspective. I wouldn’t have skipped the hair and makeup trial, and I would have included a first look, I think it would have been such a beautiful and intimate moment to share. Aside from a few other small details, there’s nothing major I would have changed.”

Would you recommend Portugal
to other couples?

“Unquestionably. Portugal is unlike anywhere else. Its beauty is undeniable, but what truly sets it apart is the generosity and care of its people.”

Do you have any advice for other couples considering Portugal?

“Never underestimate the importance of trials for beauty services, and trust your instincts when selecting vendors. Go with those who make you feel seen, valued, and understood.”

Would you return to Portugal to renew your vows or celebrate something special?

“Absolutely. We are already planning to renew our vows at Solar de Vila Mea. Portugal has become inseparable from our story.”

Do you feel this experience
changed you in any way?

“Yes. It brought us even closer together as a couple and reminded us of the power of gathering people you love in a meaningful way. It was a celebration of love, not just ours, but everyone’s who showed up for us.”

“To our families and friends who crossed oceans to be with us, thank you for bringing so much joy and love. To our planner and the entire vendor team, thank you for understanding our vision and turning it into reality. And to Portugal, thank you for giving us the most magical beginning to this new chapter of our lives.”

Lastly, would you like to leave a
thank-you note or special dedication?
