Lounge Fotografia
PHOTOGRAPHERS
We are pleased
to present…
The story of Lounge Fotografia is made up of two different paths that met in Porto and became one. Luís arrived in 2000 to study photography at the Portuguese Institute of Photography, driven by curiosity and a passion for imagery. Marta, after graduating in Information Sciences in Coimbra, moved to Porto in 2004. Fate took care of bringing their paths together, and with it was born a creative and life partnership.
Working together was a natural process. They shared the same aesthetic sensitivity and realized that, as a couple, they could offer couples a more complete and authentic narrative. Since 2006, Lounge Fotografia has been documenting weddings in Portugal and beyond, building a portfolio defined by naturalness, intimacy, and emotion.
The transition into the wedding world was organic. It began with friends and acquaintances but quickly evolved into destination weddings. It was there that they discovered their true purpose: telling love stories while experiencing new cultures, people, and places. Away from conventional formats, these weddings gave them creative freedom and the certainty that they were exactly where they were meant to be.
One of the most significant milestones in their career happened in 2012, at a wedding at Six Senses Douro. The celebration, filled with guests from around the world, live music, and an unusual production at the time, confirmed that their work had a real impact and relevance that went far beyond simply taking photographs.
The style of Lounge Fotografia is clear and consistent: timeless images that withstand fleeting trends. With soft colors, warm light, and sincere storytelling, Luís and Marta always aim for couples to see themselves in the photos and relive the emotions of their day. For them, it’s not about creating images for portfolios, but about preserving memories for future generations.
Balancing personal and professional life is not easy, especially with the demanding pace of weddings and twin children who require their full attention. Yet it is this very experience that reminds them daily of the importance of living in the moment, a principle they carry directly into the way they photograph.
What drives them is simple and profound: telling real stories. Stories of families, love, and emotions that will never repeat themselves. This constant pursuit of authenticity defines their work.
In the future, they aspire to continue attracting couples from around the world who resonate with their vision, without ever losing the essence that defines them. They also dream of new creative projects, editorials, exhibitions, and collaborations, that keep their artistic flame alive and inspire other professionals.
For Lounge Fotografia, photographing weddings is more than documenting a day. It is about creating a legacy.
Step into the world of art…
How did you start in photography? Who started first, and how did the idea of working on this project together come about?
We started photographing at different times, but always shared the same curiosity about the power of images and communication. Luís came to Porto in 2000 to study photography at IPF, and Marta, after completing a degree in Information Sciences in Coimbra, also moved to Porto in 2004. The idea of working together came naturally: we shared the same aesthetic vision and realized that as a couple we could offer a more complete narrative that couples could truly connect with.
When did you realize you wanted to focus on weddings, especially destination weddings?
Weddings appeared organically through friends and acquaintances. For many years, most of our couples were Portuguese, but when we started photographing our first destination weddings, we realized that this was where we felt truly fulfilled: telling love stories while discovering other cultures, people, and unique places. These celebrations are usually more relaxed and less conventional.
What moment in your career do you consider a milestone?
One wedding marked us deeply: a dream wedding in 2012 at the stunning Six Senses hotel in Douro. It was a beautiful celebration with guests traveling from all over the world, bands, DJs, and a wedding planner—which was not common at the time. When the couple hired us and during the wedding day itself, we felt that our work had a real impact, reinforced our belief in what we do, and confirmed that we were on the right path.
How do you balance personal life with the intense wedding schedule?
It’s a big challenge. We’ve learned to value family time as much as weddings. Our children help us see life simply and remind us of the importance of living in the moment—something we also bring into our photography. We have twin children who require a lot of attention, and often it’s not easy to balance professional and family life.
How would you define the Lounge Fotografia style?
Our style is natural, intimate, and emotional. We value soft colors, warm light, and sincere storytelling. We want each couple to recognize themselves in the images, to look at them and feel the emotions of that day again. We aim for timeless images that endure over the years. Having photographed weddings since 2006, we understand the importance of not following trends and maintaining a steady path, always focusing on the couple as clients rather than our ego or simply creating a portfolio.
Do you have creative inspiration outside wedding photography?
Yes! We draw a lot of inspiration from cinema and TV series, architecture, music, and even travel. A good film or a street with perfect light can spark new ideas for storytelling.
What has been your most challenging wedding day, and how did you handle it?
In so many years of photographing, I can’t recall a day that was particularly difficult or required overcoming a major obstacle. The key is to remain calm, adapt quickly, and never lose sight of what truly matters: the couple enjoying their day. Perhaps the most challenging part is returning home after long hours of shooting.
Which locations in Portugal move you the most when photographing?
We love Portugal’s diversity: Porto and the Douro with their endless vineyards hold a special place in our hearts, but also the wild beaches of Sintra, traditional estates and palaces in the interior… Each location has its own light and atmosphere, which is a huge privilege for us as photographers. We are lucky to know wonderful places from the North to the South of the country.
Practical advice for brides from abroad who want to get married in Portugal?
Trust local vendors who know the country, climate, and venues well. And give yourselves time to enjoy the experience, because getting married in Portugal is also about experiencing an unforgettable journey and a bit of our culture.
What has been the most beautiful or surprising feedback you’ve received?
Once a couple told us: “When we saw our photos, we felt like we were reliving the entire day.” For us, there is no greater compliment than knowing our images can suspend time and become part of a family’s legacy.
Are there moments you always try to capture?
Yes, the spontaneous emotions: the parents’ gaze, friends’ tears, unexpected hugs. These are moments that reveal the essence of the day and never repeat themselves.
What have you learned most beautifully from working together?
We’ve learned to complement each other. Luís is calmer, observant, and attentive to details; Marta is more talkative, more like a friend to the bride, always ready to help. This combination brings balance and has helped us grow both as professionals and as a couple.
What drives you?
The desire to tell real stories. Our work goes far beyond photography: it’s about people, families, memories, and legacy.
Your biggest ambition for the coming years?
To continue attracting couples from around the world who resonate with our vision. And perhaps, to develop editorial projects and exhibitions that inspire other photographers and, most importantly, keep our creative flame alive!
