Colibri Films
VIDEOGRAPHERS
We are pleased
to present…
What drives Colibri Films is not just technique or the camera itself, but the pure desire to preserve memories. Life and work partners, Sara and Zé founded Colibri in 2017 with a clear purpose: to film weddings with truth, emotion, and aesthetics — through the lens of friendship, intimacy, and creativity.
At Colibri, every wedding is seen as a unique narrative, a story that deserves to be told authentically, with a documentary eye and an editorial touch that celebrates the simple and the beautiful. Sara and Zé believe their films are more than just videos — they are time capsules, pieces that will gain meaning over the years, for the families they captured, for the children, grandchildren, and friends who will one day relive that moment.
From the very first meeting, they want couples to feel they have friends by their side — discreet and attentive — who capture not only what is seen, but what is felt. Music, sound, editing — every element is treated as a chapter of a film, not merely an event. The result? Films that breathe life, emotion, and storytelling — and remain timeless.
Choosing Colibri Films means embracing an approach where presence doesn’t disturb, where the camera becomes invisible, and where memories gain both voice and movement. Because for Sara and Zé, what truly matters is that, decades from now, each couple still feels that same joy, that same flutter, that same genuine emotion they lived on their wedding day.
The desire to do things differently…
How did the idea to create Colibri Films come about? Was there a specific moment when you realized you wanted to work together professionally?
Colibri was born in 2017 from a desire to do things differently. At the time, we were four friends working as freelancers for other companies — often meeting the couples only on the wedding day, following a style that wasn’t truly ours. That’s when we felt the need to create something together, something with identity — and that’s how Colibri came to life.
We were always the four of us, but Martinha and Tiago, who are now teachers in the fields of audiovisual and communication, eventually chose to dedicate themselves fully to teaching. Zé and I naturally took on the management and heart of Colibri, and today we are the faces of the brand. Still, Marta and Tiago remain part of the Colibri family and are always available to support us whenever needed.
Each of you brought your own experience and talent to the team — how do you complement each other in your daily work?
On a wedding day, each of us brings a different perspective: I focus on not missing any important moment, always attentive to the main action and the emotions unfolding before us. Zé, on the other hand, focuses more on the creative and artistic side — capturing the surroundings, details, atmosphere, and composition. In the end, what drives us is this complementarity: I preserve the essence, and he gives it shape and poetry.
What was the most significant challenge you faced at the start of your career, and how did you overcome it?
We started out as a video team only, and one of the biggest challenges was convincing couples that they needed to hire photography separately. To overcome this, we partnered with a few photography teams, always maintaining Colibri’s signature and identity. Over time, the market evolved, and couples began to recognize the value of our work — appreciating the strength of a consistent and distinctive vision for each wedding.
Your style is described as both cinematic and documentary. How would you define the essence of your work?
Our approach is documentary and natural, with an editorial touch that highlights both simplicity and creativity in every image. Ultimately, we want our films to be more than just records of a day — we want them to be journeys through time, allowing each couple to relive not just what happened, but what they felt on that day.
What inspirations (films, photographers, music, art) influence your creative approach?
We’re driven by cinema — every film or series we watch sparks our creativity, and that inspiration inevitably reflects in the stories we tell. It shows in the way light and shadow meet, in the framing, and in the narrative rhythm.
What excites us most about weddings is their unpredictability. No two weddings are the same, and every venue brings its own atmosphere, light, and challenges. For us, it’s about recreating the beauty of cinema in real time, with whatever conditions we have at that moment — and turning it into something timeless. It’s in that spontaneity that we feel authenticity and art truly meet.
What has been the most challenging wedding you’ve filmed in terms of logistics, weather, or number of guests — and how did you handle it?
That’s a tough question, because every wedding is challenging in its own way. The truth is, weddings are full of unforeseen moments — whether logistical, weather-related, or simply due to the pace of the day. For us, the real challenge lies in finding solutions within seconds, calmly and creatively, without ever losing sight of the essence of the moment. In reality, there’s never been a wedding without at least one obstacle to overcome. Things change from minute to minute, and that ability to adapt quickly is part of what defines our work.
What has been the most memorable feedback you’ve received from a couple?
We’ve received many touching messages over the years, but the most meaningful moments are when couples continue to invite us to capture small family events as their families grow. Nothing makes us happier than being able to follow that journey and see how the memories we created remain part of their lives.
What does it feel like to create a film that not only documents a day but also conveys emotions and memories forever?
It’s an indescribable feeling. Every time we finish a film, we still get emotional — because we know we’ve preserved a unique, unrepeatable memory: that day, those people, that family together. The voices, the laughter, the hugs, and the tears — all of it makes the film so much more than just a record. It becomes a capsule of emotions and memories that can be relived forever — 10, 20, or 30 years from now. That’s when we truly feel we have a beautiful purpose.
Is there a dream location where you would love to film but haven’t had the chance yet? Why?
We love to travel, and we’ve been fortunate to capture incredible weddings abroad every year. But we’ve never filmed in Italy — a country we adore and that has such incredible potential for weddings. We’re still waiting for the couple who will take us there!
What motivates you with every new wedding?
What motivates us most is knowing that with each wedding, we’re stepping into a new life story — and how lucky we are to be part of at least one chapter of that story, delivering something truly unique at the end.
What has been the greatest personal lesson you’ve learned throughout your career together?
The biggest lesson we’ve learned is that memories are, in fact, the most precious thing we have in life. Life is short, and everything can change in an instant — and we hold in our hands an incredible power: to capture the last images of someone dear, their voice, a laugh, a tear. That privilege reminds us every day of the responsibility and magic of what we do. That’s why, on a wedding day, our focus isn’t only on the couple — it’s on the entire family and their friends too.
What’s the next goal or dream you hope to achieve as Colibri Films?
We’re deeply grateful for the journey we’ve had so far, but if we had to name one goal, it would be to travel more — and to keep being inspired by every life story that crosses our path.
